Over the past few months, I’ve been learning all about the business side of book publishing. Essentially, what I’m discovering is that there is quite the process to go through after typing “the end”.
In addition to getting this site set up and all the other details related to releasing the first book in the Psions of SPIRE series, I am also continuing to work on the series. Spark of Vitality is almost ready for release at this point, I just need to get the final edits completed.
As of right now, I am also working on the edits of the second book in the series which features Oscar and Andrew. Oscar is a minor character in the first book. We see him interacting with Aaron at Mount Hope Hospital in Spark of Vitality. In the second SPIRE book, we get to see more of what Oscar actually does as a professional anchor at a busy hospital. His love interest, Andrew, is unique in that he undergoes his psionic emergence as an adult. Andrew’s journey is going to show more of what training as a SPIRE agent entails.
My current project in honor of NaNoWriMo is the first draft of the third installment in the series. Book three will feature Finn and Lee, two characters who appeared as teenagers in earlier books. It will take place roughly three years after the events of book two. Finn and Lee will be teaming up with the existing cast of characters at SPIRE to take on a new threat out in the field.
In addition to the novels in the series, I have some ideas for short stories that will expand on the SPIRE universe. Stay tuned for one of these stories to turn up as a freebie in my newsletter.
So I’ve got a few irons in the fire here and I am anxious to get them out into the world. I hope that when these books do come out you enjoy reading them as much as I am enjoying writing them.
